Area Description
Centre Wellington is a township in south-central Ontario, Canada, located in Wellington County. The primary communities in the township are Elora and Fergus. The township also contains the smaller communities of Aboyne, Alma, Belwood, Dracon, Ennotville, Inverhaugh, Living Springs, Oustic, Pentland Corners, Salem, Shiloh, Simpson Corners, Speedside and Spier, and the ghost town of Ponsonby.
The township was established on January 1, 1999, by amalgamating the former town of Fergus, the former village of Elora and parts of the former townships of West Garafraxa, Nichol, Pilkington and Eramosa.
According to the 2011 Canadian Census, the population of Centre Wellington is 26,693, a 2.5% increase from 2006. The population density is 65.5 people per square km. The median age is 42.7 years old, a bit higher than the national median at 40.6 years old. There are 10,729 private dwellings with an occupancy rate of 92.7%.
